Katie Brandt, Principal
Katie Brandt’s understanding of home begins with a simple idea: everyone deserves a space that feels distinctly their own. As the ninth of twelve children, she learned early on the importance of carving out beauty and individuality within a shared world—a sensibility that continues to shape her work today.
Her love of design took root in childhood, where afternoons were spent arranging her dollhouse with her mother’s fabric samples, experimenting with color, pattern, and texture long before she knew the language for it. What began as instinct has since evolved into a signature approach—one that balances richness with restraint, and elegance with livability.
Katie’s time studying architecture in Florence, Italy further refined her eye, instilling a deep appreciation for proportion, history, and the quiet power of well-considered spaces. This influence is evident in her work, where a traditional foundation is thoughtfully reimagined through a modern lens.
Before founding her studio in 2010, Katie honed her craft at Ralph Lauren Home and Catherine Macfee Design, experiences that shaped her commitment to detail, quality, and timeless design. Today, through Katie Brandt Interior Design, she creates interiors that are layered, collected, and deeply personal—spaces that reflect not only how her clients live, but who they are.
Katie holds a BFA in Interior Design from the University of San Francisco and studied at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. Her work spans California, Colorado, and the Midwest, where she collaborates with clients to create homes that feel both elevated and timeless.
She resides in Iowa City with her husband, continuing to draw inspiration from both her surroundings and the lives of those she designs for.
